Commercial coherent receivers utilize balanced photodetectors (PDs) with high single-port rejection ratio (SPRR) to mitigate the signal-signal beat interference (SSBI) due square-law detection process. As symbol rates of transponders are increased 100 Gbaud and beyond, maintaining a SPRR in cost-effective manner becomes more challenging. One potential approach for solving this problem is leverage concept single-ended receiver (SER) where PDs used instead PDs. In case, resulting SSBI should be mitigated digital domain. paper, we show that can effectively using various low-complexity techniques, such as direct filed reconstruction (DFR), clipped iterative cancellation (CIC) gradient descent (GD). addition, present self-calibration technique SERs which extended characterizing optical-to-electrical (O/E) response conventional (BR). Using developed then experimentally demonstrate 90 probabilistically constellation shaped 64-QAM (PCS-64QAM) transmission SER, achieving net data rate 882 Gb/s over km standard single mode fiber (SSMF). The sensitivity penalty compared BR below 0.5 dB. We expect when further, SER potentially outperform BR, especially applied cost-sensitive commercial pluggable transceivers.
